Avocado - March 2007 – South African feature

Avocado is the in-house journal of The Heaventree Press and showcases poetry, prose, fiction and artwork, that is fresh, innovative and culturally aware. South Africa is the provenance of and inspiration for the art, poetry, short prose and articles in the March issue of Avocado. We are honoured to be featuring new unpublished poems from the forthcoming Zulu collection by Angifi Dladla, poet, playwright and activist based in Germiston, who struggles under threat of persecution against indoctrination, inequality and censorship; poetry from both South African born Isobel Dixon whose debut collection won the Olive Schreiner Prize for new talent and Booker prize short-listed author of Bitter Fruit, Achmat Dangor; as well as a feature on award-winning narrative artist, Nola Clendinning. Alongside this exploration of the work and homeland of these exceptionally talented artists stand poems from the UK within which we are, of course, delighted to present a section devoted to poets based in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.
